Muir's Tours - Kenya Camping Safari

Mobile Camping Safari

Grab some friends and join us for a private mobile safari in Kenya.  We spend time with the Massai and also the Samburu people, which gives a great opportunity to learn about everyday life in East Africa. We hike through the bush just outside the Massai Mara with the Massai and take a camel ride with the Samburu.

The varied itinerary takes in Mount Kenya, El Karama Animal Sanctuary, Lake Nakuru and the Massai Mara.

The Maasai Mara ecosystem boasts one of the most diverse and greatest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The large lion and cheetah populations combined with the spectacular wildebeest and zebra migration provide a unique animal watching opportunity. The Mara is also a haven for many rare and exotic species of birds.

Itinerary

Day 1 Start from Nairobi and drive to Mount Kenya.  Set up camp and enjoy lunch before a trek through the forest on the foothills of the mountain to visit the Mau Mau Caves.  Dinner and overnight in your own mobile camp.

Day 2 Drive to El Karama Ranch in Laikipia.  The ranch is a combined animal sanctuary and cattle ranch and you will be the only visitors on the ranch which is over 50,000 acres.  The wildlife includes elephant, giraffe, large herds of eland, zebra, lion and cheetah.  Animal viewing drive in the afternoon, all meals and overnight in your own mobile camp.

Day 3 El Karama Ranch  Animal viewing drive / walk (as you choose).  You'll also get a night game drive in the evening.  If you wish you may pay extra to horseback ride or go fishing.  All meals and overnight in your own mobile camp.

Day 4 Drive to the start of our mini camel trek.  The Samburu warriors will walk you through the wilderness with all our gear carried on the camels.  Evening camp is set up next to a waterfall and we sit around the campfire at night swapping safari tall tales!  All meals and overnight in your own mobile camp.

Day 5 After an early breakfast we walk back to the vehicle and continue down to Lake Nakuru via Thompson's Falls.  Here we will stay at the Mbweha
Bandas just outside the park.  Take a night animal viewing drive and then dinner and overnight at the bandas.

Day 6 A full day game drive in the park with a picnic lunch and then return to the bandas for dinner and overnight.  If tired, this is a great spot to rest and relax for a day at the bandas.

Day 7 Drive to the Massai village of Maji Moto at the foothills of the Loita Hills on the outskirts of the Massai Mara.  Take an afternoon hike after lunch with the Massai warriors who are your hosts while here.  Have a moonlit soak in the nearby hot springs before dinner and overnight at the campsite.
