Dog
Sledding Special

The ultimate
dog sledding
experience, lead
by one of Norway's top mushers. You will lead your own team of
6 dogs far off the beaten track using the freedom that a husky safari gives. This
husky safari will provide new and interesting mushing experiences.
Neither
age nor gender are barriers - all are level factors for handling
the dog-sled,
but you do need a certain amount of strength and stamina so conditioning is
important.
Most of our trips in Lapland are
suitable for novices through to experienced mushers, as the techniques are
simple and are absorbed easily in a few hours. The
difference between the options is the distance covered (and amount of effort)
each day. So you do not need to experienced but it certainly
helps if you are conditioned to moderate regular exercise, particularly for the
more demanding (longer periods of sledding). A rowing
machine is the best way to get conditioned as you need to concentrate on arms
and back, while not forgetting the legs.
Late
April provides 24 hours of daylight so plenty of time to enjoy
ourselves. If the days are warm and the nights chilly, some dog
sledding will be done during the night.
Some fishing could be done on some of the warm days.
It is difficult to sleep, as the continuous light fills you full of life.
During the
evening meal on the arrival day you will have a trip briefing and up until then
the route and accommodation will be uncertain, but most likely you will be in
tents as this is the flexible option.
The route is planned during the last few days before you arrive to
ensure that the optimum route is chosen based on the current conditions.
Some nights
may be spent in a lavo (a Sami teepee / tipi shaped tent) and
some nights in cabins with other nights in tents - the actual accommodation
depends upon the route chosen and it may be that every night is in a tent.

Accommodation
on the first night and the last night of the tour is in our cabins.
After 7 or 8 days dog sledding (10 DAYS IN TOTAL), a shower and sauna is waiting for us
at our cabins.
We end the husky safari gathered in the warm atmosphere of a farewell
dinner in the Barta,a special log cabin with an open fire.
