Muir's Tours - Dog Sledding

Norway / Lapland
Round Trip Sledding Safari & Sami Culture - SM1

Dog sledding in the far north of Norway on the Finnmark plateau for those with little or no experience and an immersion into the Sami culuture. After a few hours you will be mushing your own dog sled in Lapland.

The tour starts from the comfort of our cabins, in the heart of the Sámi homeland and heads north to the hills, where we traverse the Finnmark plateau. On this husky safari we have pre-arranged a meeting with the Sami people at a winter settlement and learn about their life. On all our other sledding trips, we will stop if we happen to come across a Sami settlement, so if you wish to ensure this cultural experience, this is the one for you.

This is a popular husky safari as it combines cultural exchanges and dog sledding in the beauty of Lapland. We have set dates, but will run the trip anytime for 4 people or more.

Day 2  After breakfast we get you into your snowsuit, boots etc. We then organise the teams of huskies and teach you the basics of caring for your team and driving the sleds. After this introduction you will be given your "own" team of 4-6 dogs. The long sled-tour starts directly from our cabins. After a steep climb up to the mountain plateau we are mushing over a hilly stretch, crossing lakes, marshes and a stretch of barren land to Gardin Lodge.   B, L, D.
