There is no international
system for grading trekking routes, but to give you some idea
of the suitability of any given trek or hike we use the following
grades.
The height gains and distances
refer to experience gained in the UK.
Easy - Suitable for anyone who has prepared by regular
walking in low hills (height gains of up to 500m at low altitude),
or middle distance (10 -15 miles a day) level walks.
Moderate - Suitable for regular walkers of middle hills
(height gains of up to 600m at low altitude), or middle distance
(15 miles a day) level walks.
Hard - Suitable for regular summit walkers (height
gains of up to 1500m at low altitude).
Very Hard - Suitable for experienced walkers who are able
to cope with long steep gradients and some exposure to steep drops.
Some high altitude (3500m +) experience is desirable, but not
essential.
Extreme - Suitable for experienced walkers who are able
to cope with long steep gradients, scrambling and exposure.
Experience at high altitude (3500m +) and use of crampons &
ice axe (depending on route / time of year).
