His Holiness the Sakya Trizin,
the 41st head of the Sakyapa School of Tibetan Buddhism sent
the venerable Lama Lama Thupten's normal role is as a senior teacher at the Sakya Centre in India. Should you want details of the
centres programme you can enquire
through Muir's Tours as we are helping with the administration
of the centre. We arrange short or long stays in India and Nepal so that you can visit the sacred sites, monasteries, colleges of Tibetan Buddhism and to meet the people. We arrange retreats, homestays and volunteer work on Tibetan projects in Dharamsala, the present base of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and also in Dehra Dun, the present base of His Holiness the Sakya Trizin and the Sakya sect, both in northrn India. Each year around March - April we visit sacred and important sites in India & Nepal. One of the most popular locations is the place where Lord Buddha Shakyamuni was born. We also visit the places where he gave many teachings and also the sacred site where he achieved nirvana, leaving behind his life as Prince Siddhartha of the Sakya clan to become Buddha Shakyamuni. In Tibet, there are a number of monasteries that are still intact and of course there is the Potala Palace. Most of out trips into Tibet have a number of days in Lhasa and there are options to travel overland visiting many places in the south and west of the country. Each year we run a number of long trips (19 to 30 days) some of which visit Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash. We have a Tibetan Buddhist, Sonam Gyaltsen, on our staff in Nepal and he will be able to answer your questions before and / or after a trip into Tibet. Following his graduation, Sonam spent his time at a Tibetan monastery in Nepal, teaching the monks, until he joined Muir's Tours. Sonam cannot enter Tibet, but he can prepare travellers who are making a journey to the "roof of the world". A further discussion with Sonam, on return from Tibet may help to piece together some of your thoughts and memories. We are able to arrange retreats and Buddhist courses in Nepal and India, as well as Reading, England. A visit to the Buddhist temple
at Swayambhunath is a must, when in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is a
large site, which also houses Hindu shrines and temples. |
