Blackfeet Tipi Camp & Indigenous Art Gallery - Montana

The whole trip was magical and Lou (the Muir's Tour guide) was fantastic. Lou looked after me like a sister and great friend from the first minute.  She is the most wonderful person, so broad minded and well read. We got on famously and she really checked out everything carefully before dropping me anywhere. We went for a jaw dropping tour of the Glacier Park first. It is so beautiful that it is very hard to describe the scenery accurately.

The tipi camp is clean and comfortable but is for campers only (a few soft city types complained about everything - they were not used to being out of their homes). I thought the new shower block with unlimited hot water luxurious (and it is!!)   There is a beautiful common room attached to the art gallery and it is wonderful to read in there when you want a bit of comfort. The gallery is filled with beautiful work by Native American artists like Darryl Norman and David Dragonfly.

Each night they cook up wonderful food and loads of it.  I could generally only eat one course.  I was the only one who wanted breakfast and dinner every day.  The others came and went and sometimes had the dinner or breakfast.  I think it is best to order 7x dinner and breakfast because the cooking is better than the four star hotel I stayed at in Los Angeles.

Guests ate in the common room and sometimes if the mix of people was good we spent hours talking about the Blackfeet and all their social problems and their amazing history. The whole setup is for people who want to learn about the real life situation of the Blackfeet and their current problems and what they are doing about their situation. The Disney version is not available here and I greatly appreciated that.

Leaving Montana and Lou the next Monday was traumatic for me. Most reluctantly I got on the plane that morning to leave Kalispell - but as Arnie says "I'll be back!!!!!!".
