A holiday to remember for the things you did not do !!

Located off the far northern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, Lamu Island is part of the Lamu Archipelago and is possibly one of the most relaxing places on earth. Lamu is also the name given to the only town on the island and you will soon find that nothing much happens here in a hurry. There is just one car and no proper roads - only boats and donkeys.

Established in the 14th century, Lamu is the oldest surviving Swahili town in Kenya, which explains why the streets are only wide enough for donkeys and pedestrians.

Without cars there is either a two-hour guided walking tour of Lamu or choose your transport from the two options of a donkey or a dhow. The walk will take you past some of the many shops in town that sell intricate handicrafts - from small wooden boxes to traditional Swahili doors made only in Lamu, which take two months to complete.

If you are wanting something energetic for some of your time - scuba gear & sailboards can be hired. We can also arrange sailing for you. If you to eat out, the waterfront in Lamu has a variety of cafes and restaurants, each selling the catch of the day.

Climate
Lamu is a great place at any time of year, with pleasant conditions all year round. The sea breezes which are ideal for sailing ensure the island does not get too hot.  The annual pattern is:

May & June: Some rain most days, intermittent sunshine, cool
July & August: Showery, cool and breezy
September & October: Mostly dry, warm and sunny
November: Generally warm and sunny
December - February: Hot and sunny, breezy
March & April: Hot and sunny, calm and a little humid
