Trekking - Sabah Jungle & Kinabalu Summit 

A 10 day jungle trek into the rainforests of Sabah, Borneo - the highlight being the hike up Mount Kinabalu in the final days.  
 
Itinerary
 
Day 1
Fly into Kota Kinabalu.  Transfer to a lodge on the shores of the South China Sea for relaxation and preparation. L, D.

Day 2
Depart on a 7 hr journey to reach Maliau Basin Conservation Area (MBCA). Proceed to Agathis Camp and set up our camp. After dinner, enjoy a night drive in search of nocturnal animals through the 26km access road along the Agathis Camp & Belian. Possible encounter of samber deer, bearded pigs, Malay civet and flying squirrel. B, L, D.

Day 3
After breakfast, begin trekking through the rainforest. This challenging journey will take about 6 hours as you ascend to the highest level of the Basin. In the afternoon, we take a side trip to the nearby waterfalls of Giluk.  Spend the rest of your day swimming and relaxing in cool spring water. Along the route today you may possibly see macaques and a number of rare birds. Overnight at Camel Trophy Camp.B, L, D.
 
Day 4
Today, we trek hard for about 7 hours through the dense forest of Maliau Basin. Discover the abundance of nepenthes plants along "Jalan Babi". Expect to arrive at Bambangan Campsite at about 2pm. After lunch we go to the spectacular seven tier Maliau waterfall and enjoy a refreshing swim.  This is one of the most remote places you will have ever been in. Overnight at Bambangan Campsite. Day 5
After breakfast, leave Bambangan Campsite for Agathis Camp on a 9 hours trek. Stop for packed lunch at Ginseng Camp.  Overnight at Agathis Camp. B, L, D.
 
Day 6
After breakfast, depart Agathis Camp by jeep to Kota Kinabalu.  B, L, D.

Day 7
Drive (2 hours - 88 km) through padi-fields and Dusun villages over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu to arrive at the park headquarters at Kundasang. Visit the Visitor Centre and Mountain Garden; home to some of the 24 species of flowering rhododendrons, 10 species of carnivorous pitcher plants, estimated 1,400 species of orchids, over 600 species of ferns, more than 40 species of oak trees and over 300 species of birds. Take a guided walk on one of the trails in the shade of the montane forest. Overnight at twin bedded room.  B, L, D.
 
Day 8
Transfer to Timpohon Gate (1800m) to start the 4-6 hours trek to Laban Rata (3353m). Do not forget to look around for some of the flowers and pitcher plants along the trail. B, L, D.
 
Day 9
Start ascent at 3 am to reach the summit (4095m) by sunrise. After photography, return to Park HQ for lunch and transfer back to Kota Kinabalu. B, L, D.

Day 10
After breakfast transfer to the airport. B.

What is included
Tourist permits and entrance fees, accommodation, transfers. English speaking mountain guide.  Fully supported camping by our local crew, providing all meals as stated by the code (B, L, D.).

What is not included
The price allows for joining in Kota Kinabalu and does not include international or local airfare and departure taxes, personal insurance, visa fees, vaccination costs, personal clothing and equipment, all items of a personal nature and all alcoholic drinks. Meals unless stated by the code (B, L, D).

Airfare (From the UK) 
As a guide, the international airfare should be about £780 (May – September - dry season) for economy class.
