Muir's Tours
Volunteer Options

We need enquiries from volunteers to carry out routine work on a wide range of projects. You do not need to be an expert or specialist, anyone can join these projects if you are able to perform basic tasks, such as counting the number of animals which are under observation.  You can help short or long term (from a few days to several months - each project has different needs).  If you are enthusiastic articulate (English is usually the common language), organised and flexible enough you will be an asset on our volunteer programmes.

Who are we ? The Nepal Kingdom Foundation has a number of projects in Nepal and through Muir's Tours support is provided in a variety of ways to projects and local communities in many countries around the world.

Tibetan Traders is our associate operation, which is helping Tibetan refugees help themselves.

12. Humpback Whales - Brazil
   Volunteers Needed - Humpback Whales
This is a great opportunity if you are interested in whales and marine conservation. You will enjoy hands-on participation in studies and conservation of humpback whales. The project was established in 1988 in order to study and protect Humpback whales in their mating and calving season, in two locations in the Salvador area of Brazil.

You will get involved in the long term conservation of the humpbacks and spend much of your time out on the sea (weather permitting) where you will be observing whales, collecting data on their behaviour, monitoring the songs of the whales and developing the picture identification library. Also you will assist in environmental education jobs and office based administrative duties including the entering of new data.

13. Research -
Primates Thailand Several species of primates common to Thailand such as gibbons, macaques and loris find a sanctuary in our centre. Occasionally also other non-primate species may find shelter here. We aim for the rehabilitation and long-term care of these animals, many of which have suffered from abuse. The animals identified as suitable for release are put through a long rehabilitation programme. But many animals do not meet the criteria for rehabilitation and are sadly unsuitable for release. These animals will have to remain at the sanctuary for the remainder of their lives. Want to help the Primates of Thailand ?

14. Research - Ducks New Zealand  The plight of the vulnerable and unique Blue Duck is a critical one. Blue ducks have been classified as nationally endangered in New Zealand, with a further decline in their population predicted. And they do not live anywhere outside of New Zealand. We offer you a unique experience in making a difference. You will experience close encounters with this rare species and be surrounded by beautiful and lush native bush while learning about conservation in New Zealand. Email for details

Training: If for example you are doing field research for us we will provide the necessary background information and teach you about the techniques to be employed. If however, you want a particular post, such as teaching English as a second language, we would give priority to those who had completed a suitable course, the basic being TEFL, which can be completed in a weekend.

15. Research - Przewalski's Horses in Mongolia.

This breed of ancient horse died out in the wild, however they are being reintroduced to the plains of Mongolia. We hope that the research will help us to establish a population, which can fend for itself. Therefore, we need all the data we can get, which means that as a volunteer you will get an exciting opportunity to live and work midst these fascinating animals. On top of that, you will learn more about the unique biological diversity and the traditional nomadic lifestyle of the area.
